HYPOTHYROIDISM

Hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce an adequate amount of thyroid hormones called T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine). Over time, untreated hypothyroidism can lead to more significant health conditions like obesity, joint problems, and heart disease.

Signs & Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

  • Fatigue

  • Increased sensitivity to cold

  • Constipation

  • Dry skin

  • Weight gain

  • Elevated blood cholesterol level

  • Muscle weakness and cramping

  • Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness

  • Thinning hair

  • Low libido and erectile dysfunction

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Impaired memory

  • Enlarged thyroid gland (goiter)

Diagnosing Hypothyroidism

Our medical providers will evaluate your symptoms and will complete a blood test that helps to identify an underactive thyroid. If there is evidence of Hypothyroidism with this test, they will complete a more expansive thyroid laboratory panel to get a more thorough picture and confirm a diagnosis of hypothyroidism.

Many men will seek out EveresT Men’s Health for our expertise with testosterone replacement, often due to the experience of decreased energy. Before treating the symptom of low energy, we must identify the cause—if the thyroid is not functioning properly, this could be the primary cause of energy deficiency and correcting thyroid function will typically result in significant improvement or normalization of energy.

Treatment Options

When an EveresT Men’s Health provider identifies hypothyroidism, they will prescribe thyroid hormone replacement therapy and will monitor your symptom improvement over time. Over the course of treatment, we will continue laboratory studies to ensure that the dosing selected has achieved optimal hormonal balance.
